![]() Gold is not used for anything but starting researches, paying your heroes and buying and selling things from the market. It usually costs less than lumber (well, usually, sometimes you see it for more than double the price) in the market. Iron is, like lumber, used mostly for building troops though you don?t usually need it as much as lumber. The only troop that requires stone to build is catapults. With the demand, the price usually rises even higher than the price of lumber and iron in those first weeks. In the first two weeks pretty much everyone is building their walls- which take lots of stone to build- and so they are buying stone to do that. Stone is pretty much worthless except in the first two weeks or so of the game. Thus you?ll need lots of lumber to build a decent army. Lumber is typically the most valuable resource in the game- all but two troops require more lumber than anything else to build, and the two require more iron than lumber are swordsman and cataphract, which are not used as much as other units in the game. Lumber is used primarily for building troops but in the beginning you need it to build buildings as well. There are five resources- Food, Lumber, Stone, Iron and Gold.įood is used to feed your armies and send them on marches, and a certain amount is used to build building and start certain technologies. Long story short, use beginner protection to your advantage, and make sure that you are ready when you end it, or when it ends after 7 days. However, the goal nowadays is to start farming level five NPCs (Non-Player Characters, the cities on the map with Black Flags, or Barbarian Cities) with ballistae for no loss as soon as possible (I?ll go more into detail about how this is done later). Usually you do not want to end beginner protection earlier than it ends itself, especially if you don?t spend any money on advancing faster. If you join later on a server, (even just a few days in sometimes) you can usually ask for resources and get some sent to your city- depending on the age of the server and the person sending this may be a useful load of a few hundred thousand or a few million of whatever you ask for.īeginner Protection is the first seven days of you being on the game- unless you upgrade your Town Hall past level 5. Build an Academy as soon as possible and start researching the important technologies.Īfter this you can just go looking through the quest page and doing the easy quests, especially the ones that give more resources than they take to complete. Most of the builds in the very beginning can have instant speed up (since most of them are less than 5 minute builds) so use that to your advantage and don?t wait for them all. Once you have that you should be able to join an alliance and get quests for that, plus have people to talk to while you build (unless you like to lurk and never chat, I know some people that do). After this you should have near enough resources to build Town Hall level 2, and after the quest for that, an Embassy. After that, I like to start off with building a cottage, farm, sawmill, quarry and iron mine and then getting the quests for each of them. I will say that before you do anything else, go to My Items (on the right underneath the picture), then click Chest (which is one of the tabs on the top of the little page that brings up) and click on and apply the Beginner?s Package. ![]() Most quests give resources or items, so they help you progress in the beginning and also most give prestige which is a useful gauge of progress in the beginning if it does mean pretty much nothing later on (I?ll talk more about that later). Some of the first things you?ll want to do in the beginning of a server is building and getting all the quests you can.
